Flashcard (Front and Back)

Front (Question)

Lysogenic Cycle of Virus Replication

Back (Answer)

illustrated by Bacteriophage lambda

attachment

penetration

DNA of virus forms a circle

virus can then enter the lytic cycle OR recombine with the bacterial host DNA

inserted DNA is called a prophage and it replicates along the bacterial chromosome

phage remains inactive and the host cell is called a lysogenic cell

at a later time, the phage DNA is cut back out of the bacterial chromosome and it completes the lytic cycles
