Flashcard (Front and Back)

Front (Question)

How does replication of animal viruses differ from phage replication?

Back (Answer)

penetration instead of injection of the nucleic acid, the whole virus enters by endocytosis

uncoating of the virus is carried out by host cell enzymes

DNA viruses replicate the DNA in the nucleus

capsid proteins are synthesized in the cytoplasm

new viral proteins then move into the nucleus to assemble the complete virion

virions are then transported along the endoplasmic reticulum for membrane fusion and release
