If all of human experience can be emobodied in works of art, then "Whose experience is it?"

When evaluating this question, it is easy to immediately and only think of the artist's intentions in the process of creation. But what if the art object were commissioned, with certain requirements beyond the artist's control? When evaluating art, we must be aware of this... and can appreciate what the art says about the time in which it was made, the people involved, etc.
