Late 19th century had very high levels of turnout.

Early 20th century. What changes? First presidential election in 1920 women could vote in. but they didn't vote in high rates. Added women to 1920 which dragged down the overall turnout rate.

Voter rules in the 1920's also decreased turnout.
They have tried tot make registration rules easier. Motor voter law- but it really didn't help increase turn out.

1960 is actually the high watermark for the Kennedy and Nixon election 63% of America voted.

In the late 1960's the electorate was expanded and this meant that the percentage of people voting when down.
People 65 or older tend to vote at twice the rate of 25 or younger.

Today, its way easier to register
- Motor, voter law. When you get your license you can register to vote
